#PI# The Texas Republican Party is redistricting to control more congressional seats, and now the battle has begun to spread to California.

"If the Republican Party intends to play this game, California can respond more forcefully," said Robert Garcia, a Democratic Congressman from Long Beach. "We will not stand by and watch the national Congressional Republicans and Trump manipulate and control district boundaries; we will not sit idly by."

The actions in California are the clearest signal to date that Trump's efforts to push for national redistricting to increase Republican chances are evolving into a national battle, as Trump hopes to enhance the Republican Party's opportunity to maintain control of the House of Representatives after the 2026 midterm elections.

If Trump gets his way, it will definitely have far-reaching effects, further reducing the number of swing seats, strengthening the ideological opposition between the two parties, and reversing the reform efforts to grant district redistricting power to nonpartisan commissions instead of politicians.
