metamask 2025# MetaMask Introduces Transaction Shield Option

The popular Web3 wallet MetaMask has launched early access to Transaction Shield. This service combines transaction protection tools and priority customer support, offering insurance coverage directly within the app interface.

“Transaction Shield expands MetaMask’s security system. Service subscribers will receive compensation guarantees of up to $10 000 per month for all transactions that the system deems safe,” the developers explained.

How Does It Work?

The MetaMask team emphasized that the wallet’s built-in security system automatically protects users’ assets. The infrastructure simulates transactions, analyzes smart contracts and token behavior, and blocks malicious domains and new threats in real time.

The basic functionality is available to all users. If an operation passes the check successfully, the system labels it as safe. The Transaction Protection mechanism provides an extra guarantee, covering possible losses for such transactions up to $10 000.

Transaction Shield subscribers receive notifications indicating whether a specific transfer is covered. The insurance coverage is valid only at the time of the transaction and does not apply to incidents occurring before or after it.

Source: MetaMask. The option is currently available in the MetaMask browser extension, with a mobile release coming later. The following popular networks are supported: Ethereum, Linea, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Optimism, Base, Polygon, BNB Chain, and Sei.

The insurance coverage applies to the following operations:

  • DeFi sector: swapping tokens on verified DEXs (such as Uniswap or 1inch), as well as interacting with lending and liquid staking protocols like Aave and Lido;
  • NFTs: minting and trading assets on marketplaces such as OpenSea or Rarible;
  • Airdrops: claiming tokens through verified smart contracts.

In some cases, the service does not provide compensation for losses. These include:

  • Wallet compromise. Losses resulting from phishing, malware, seed phrase leakage/theft, or security breaches when storing private keys;
  • Market risks. Financial losses from technically correct transactions caused by price volatility or low liquidity;
  • Vulnerabilities in third-party protocols. Damage from DeFi platform hacks or bugs in smart contracts not controlled by MetaMask.

You can submit a claim in the MetaMask extension settings by navigating to the Transaction Shield section.

The subscription costs $9.99 per month or $99 per year. In addition to compensation guarantees, it also includes round-the-clock support.

You can try Transaction Shield for free for 14 days.

As a reminder, in October MetaMask launched support for multichain accounts, allowing users to manage addresses across different networks from a single account.
