Recently, I’ve noticed people discussing why the market drops as soon as Sun Ge makes a move. Indeed, this phenomenon is quite interesting. To understand the logic behind it, you need to start with where his nickname comes from.

As for the name “Sun Ge,” it actually comes from a classic operation in 2018. Back then, at a high point, he directly sold 6 billion TRX, and in a single night he earned 12 billion. That harvest operation made the market remember his name completely. But to truly understand why everything he trades now causes the market to fall, you also need to look at his overall operation logic.

This guy is really a genius: born in 1990, and in 2007 he was admitted to Peking University under a special admissions policy with a reduced score. In 2012, he bought a large amount of Bitcoin and made 10 million in less than a year. In 2015, he became the first cohort student of Hupan University— the only post-90s generation (90后). In 2017, he founded TRON and turned the public chain into one of the top three globally. Growing assets from 10 million to 10 billion—this pace of growth is truly astonishing.

But the key is his playbook. Every time he starts promoting a certain concept, market sentiment gets stirred up, and retail investors rush in to follow and buy. When the market is rising and reaches a high point, he then begins to sell everything off. The 2019 incident—where he spent 30 million to buy Warren Buffett’s lunch—was especially successful at turning the hype into cashing out more than 100 million worth of TRX. This kind of operation is indeed “genius” in the crypto world, but for the retail investors who follow the crowd, it’s just one repeated harvest after another.

So the current phenomenon is actually quite simple: the market has already seen through this pattern. Sun Ge’s nickname isn’t called for nothing. Every time he shows up, it signals that it’s time to dump. That’s why the market no longer buys into it, and even when he hypes something, it keeps falling. It’s not that the market is irrational; it’s that the market has learned to become smarter. Once trust is gone, no matter how he operates, it’s hard to reverse the situation. This is also a case worth thinking about: in the crypto world, how important reputation and trust are.
