On October 20, the U.S. government shutdown, which was previously widely believed to last only two to three weeks, is now evolving into a significant crisis in Washington and is likely to extend into November. “To end the shutdown, either the White House must participate in negotiations to reach an agreement, or the Democrats must compromise. But at the moment, there are no signs of either.” Analysts at Beacon Policy Advisors stated in a report, “The current government shutdown is expected to become the longest federal government shutdown in U.S. history.” As of Monday, the partial government shutdown that began this month has lasted 20 days; the longest government shutdown record in U.S. history is 35 days, which occurred nearly seven years ago during Trump’s first presidential term. The prediction market Kalshi showed last Friday that the current shutdown could last about 41 days, while two weeks ago, that market predicted the shutdown would last only 14 days. (Jin10)
