Ethereum Foundation Unveils “Strawmap” Roadmap: Targeting Second-Level Transactions and Major Throughput Gains
The Ethereum Foundation has released an updated roadmap nicknamed the “strawmap,” outlining ambitious goals to achieve second-level transaction finality and dramatically higher throughput in the coming phases.
This isn't just incremental improvement—it's a push toward making Ethereum feel more like centralized systems in terms of speed while preserving decentralization. Key focuses include advanced rollup optimizations, better data availability, improved execution layers, and refinements to proof systems that could bring finality times down to 1–2 seconds under normal conditions.
Second-level transactions would be transformative for user experience: near-instant swaps, gaming, micropayments, and real-time applications become practical without relying heavily on Layer 2 bridges or centralized sequencers. Higher throughput means the network can handle orders of magnitude more activity, supporting mass adoption scenarios.
The roadmap builds on recent upgrades and incorporates community feedback, showing Ethereum's iterative, research-driven approach. While timelines are never guaranteed in crypto, the direction is clear: scale without compromise.
For ETH holders and ecosystem participants, this is a strong long-term positive. Faster, cheaper, more capable Ethereum tends to attract developers, dApps, and capital. It also strengthens the case against faster-but-less-decentralized competitors.
Expect more details and prototypes in the months ahead. If progress stays on track, it could fuel renewed narrative strength for Ethereum in the next cycle.
