Cats. Small furry creatures that hold a special place in Islam. They are highly valued. Very highly.
Story of the Prophet
Several narrations from the Prophet Muhammad SAW speak about cats. Very interesting.
There is a story about a woman who was punished in the afterlife. Why? She locked up a cat until it died of starvation. Just like that. Without feeding it. (Bukhari)
But there is also the opposite story. A woman who committed adultery was forgiven for her sins. All because she gave water to a thirsty cat. It seems that God pays great attention to how we treat His small creatures. (Bukhari)
The Father of the Kittens
Abu Hurairah. His name itself indicates something. "Father of the Kittens" - a nickname that has stuck with him since childhood. His name used to be Abdu Shams.
He is often seen with a cat in his lap. Just relax. He is also the one who narrated several important hadiths about cats:
"Cats do not nullify prayer. They are part of our home."
And also: "Cats are not filth. They roam around among us."
Islam and Cats

Cats are considered sacred. They are not impure. Their presence during prayer is not a big issue.
Good care is a must - feed and give water. It was Abu Hurairah himself who said so.
