IT Home, February 3rd — Technology media Windows Latest published a blog today (February 3rd), reporting that NVIDIA has begun investigating compatibility issues. A large number of Windows 11 users have reported significant gaming performance problems after updating to the Microsoft January cumulative update KB5074109.

According to user feedback on the NVIDIA official forum, Windows 11 users reported that after updating to the Microsoft January cumulative update, game graphics exhibited rectangular artifacts and severe performance degradation.

For example, multiple users pointed out that when running high-load games like Forza Horizon 5, not only did the visuals display strange shadows, but the frame rate (FPS) also plummeted by 10 to 20 frames, and the 1% low frame rate (a key indicator of stuttering) worsened.

Player tests showed that uninstalling the KB5074109 update immediately restored system performance, directly ruling out graphics card driver issues as the cause.

NVIDIA staff member Manuel responded on the official forum, stating that although the problem originated with the Windows update, the team has begun analyzing it. He noted that the only effective solution currently appears to be directly uninstalling the KB5074109 update. IT Home has included relevant screenshots below:

Affected users can check their current system version via “Settings > System > About.” If the version number shows as Build 26200.7623 or 26100.7623, it indicates that the problematic patch has been installed.

NVIDIA stated that the optional January update KB5074105 released by Microsoft mainly fixes black screen issues but does not improve artifacts and frame drops. For players experiencing serious graphics issues in games, rolling back and uninstalling the January cumulative update remains the most reliable solution at present.
