A friend of mine was rejected multiple times by the girl he liked. From what I remember, he was really miserable back then. They would chat every day and night, engaging in all kinds of flirtation, caring for each other, and dropping subtle hints. Then, on her birthday, that friend carefully dressed up, bought an early high-speed train ticket from the south of one city to the north of another. I remember it was still winter, very cold outside, below freezing. He was wearing a thin T-shirt and arrived around 3 p.m., waiting for her until 7 p.m., four hours in total. When she finally came back, he went with her to watch a movie and had dinner. By the time the movie was over, it was almost 11 p.m. On the way back, he took the chance to confess to her because it was his first time confessing to a girl. He was super nervous. She was a little caught off guard, but in the end, she agreed. That night, my friend slept at an internet cafe. The next morning, he took the 7 a.m. high-speed train, looking happy and content. But the following night, she left without telling him why. She said she hadn’t made up her mind. When he heard that, he felt like he’d been struck by lightning, like a roller coaster ride—such a huge disappointment. Later, when chatting, my friend said his love life has been pretty rocky—either he didn’t really want it or he was rejected. Every time we eat together, he always says he’s starting to doubt if he’s suitable for dating. For a while, whenever he saw a girl he liked, he would feel very insecure. It’s probably a conditioned reflex. Sigh. Anyway, I still haven’t gotten over it myself. It’s really tough. But I still hope I can meet a girl who sees only me. Right now, I feel like that hope is a bit distant, and I’ve started to doubt love and falling for someone.
