At the ETH Mumbai Conference, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin warned that AI management of crypto wallets poses significant security risks and introduced the concept of CROPS AI (Censorship-resistant, Open-source, Private, Secure). He highlighted vulnerabilities such as prompt injection attacks, where instructions hidden in data like ENS records could trick AI into sending funds to malicious addresses. Buterin emphasized that local, decentralized, and private AI are distinct from one another, and current systems often lack adequate security. He proposed a layered defense strategy: prioritizing local models, using zero-knowledge payment APIs for remote calls, routing queries through mixnets, and employing Trusted Execution Environments (TEE), with the ultimate goal of achieving Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE).
