Canada and Nordic Five Countries Will Strengthen Defense Cooperation in the Arctic Region

On March 15th local time, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the leaders of five Nordic countries—Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Iceland—met in Oslo, Norway. The participating countries issued a joint statement emphasizing that they will deepen cooperation based on international law and shared values, strengthen security and stability in the Arctic region, and enhance defense cooperation through joint military exercises and increased defense industry capabilities. At the joint press conference, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stated that Denmark has faced “completely unacceptable pressure” from the United States regarding Greenland. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said, “We are facing increasing challenges, and cooperation with the Nordic countries is at the core of Canada’s strategic interests.” Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre pointed out that collaboration with Arctic neighboring countries is crucial for Norway.
