From the front end of preventing ecological and environmental damage, courts at all levels nationwide issued 208 injunctions last year

A good ecological environment is the most inclusive people’s livelihood and welfare, as well as the environmental rights of the people. In ecological and environmental protection, the people’s courts focus on prevention at the front end, timely stopping the occurrence and expansion of damage. Last year, courts at all levels across the country issued 208 injunctions, fully utilizing the functions of preventive public interest litigation, injunctions, and pre-judgment enforcement systems, strengthening front-end prevention of ecological and environmental damage. Wu Zhaoxiang, President of the Environmental Resources Tribunal of the Supreme People’s Court, stated that ecological and environmental damage is latent, persistent, and irreversible. Based on the principle of post-event relief, traditional civil liability is difficult to effectively protect the ecological environment. Strengthening front-end prevention to promptly stop the occurrence and expansion of damage has significant practical importance in ecological and environmental protection.
