AI | Meta Spends Over $210 Billion to Acquire Nebius Computing Power
Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, will spend up to $27 billion (approximately HKD 210.6 billion) over the next five years to use AI infrastructure from data center company Nebius.
Dutch company Nebius announced that starting early next year, it will provide Meta with dedicated computing power valued at $12 billion; Meta also committed to purchasing up to an additional $15 billion in computing capacity from facilities Nebius is building for third-party clients.
Last year, Meta signed a $3 billion agreement with Nebius. This highlights the company’s strong push to acquire more computing power to support AI product development.
A Meta spokesperson said the company is diversifying its AI partnerships and technology stack as part of “building more resilient and flexible infrastructure.”
Nebius, spun off from Russian internet giant Yandex in 2024, is a so-called “neo cloud” company operating data centers and has a strategic partnership with Nvidia. The company is dedicated to building data centers specifically designed for training models and running services like ChatGPT.
