The US, UK, and Canada jointly launch the "Atlantic Action" to combat cryptocurrency scams.
According to Mars Finance, Decrypt reports that the U.S. Secret Service will collaborate with the UK National Crime Agency, the Ontario Provincial Police, and the Ontario Securities Commission to launch an international joint operation called “Atlantic Action,” aimed at combating cryptocurrency scams such as “authorized phishing” or “pig-butchering” scams. These scams often involve online fake romantic relationships to trick victims into granting access to their funds. U.S. Secret Service officials stated that the operation will identify and dismantle these scams almost in real-time to prevent criminals from profiting further. The UK side mentioned that such scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and the operation aims to protect the public through early warning and asset protection. This cooperation builds on Canada’s “Operation Atlas,” launched in 2024. According to a Chainalysis report, crypto crimes caused over $17 billion in losses last year.
