State Administration for Market Regulation:
Strictly investigate five major illegal and violations related to alcoholic beverages
Xinhua News Agency Beijing, (Reporter Zhao Yining, Wang Xi) — On the 15th, the State Administration for Market Regulation announced that recently, the agency has deployed local market regulation departments to carry out comprehensive governance of prominent issues in alcoholic products, cracking down severely on illegal and violations, and effectively safeguarding the public’s food safety and consumer rights.
This comprehensive governance focuses on five key issues: First, producing counterfeit alcohol using methanol, industrial alcohol, etc., manufacturing and selling fake alcohol in illegal workshops, selling packaging materials involved in counterfeiting, and improper management of alcohol-based liquid fuels leading to poisoning from accidental ingestion; Second, adulterating edible alcohol to impersonate solid-state white liquor, original liquor, wine, fruit wine, yellow wine, etc., using grape juice to imitate alcohol-free wine, and using edible alcohol from potatoes, molasses, etc., to impersonate grain-based alcohol; Third, exceeding permitted limits of food additives in products like white wine and grape wine, and adding non-edible substances illegally in prepared wines, other distilled spirits, beer, etc.; Fourth, infringing on registered trademarks and geographical indications, unauthorized use of similar or identical marks, packaging, or decoration that have certain influence, forging or impersonating quality marks, product origin, or factory names and addresses; Fifth, false claims on product labels regarding disease prevention or treatment functions, falsely promoting products as “special supply,” “exclusive supply,” or “internal supply” for party, government agencies, or military, and engaging in false advertising or commercial propaganda.
It is reported that local market regulation departments will strengthen supervision and law enforcement throughout all stages of production, processing, food sales, catering services, and marketing. They will comprehensively utilize administrative licensing, supervision and inspection, sampling and monitoring, law enforcement investigations, and other measures to severely investigate key cases, shut down illegal workshops, punish criminal offenders, and expose typical cases. Meanwhile, they will enhance standards guidance and technical support, encouraging enterprises to improve product quality and promote high-quality development of the alcohol industry.
The reporter learned that the State Administration for Market Regulation encourages all sectors of society and media to strengthen social supervision and public opinion oversight. Consumers are advised to report alcohol product issues through the nationwide 12315 platform and hotline.
