The State Council Safety Commission Office urgently reports on recent typical major accidents and has decided to initiate supervised investigations into four incidents.
Source: Xinhua News Agency
Beijing, March 15 — According to the Emergency Management Department, the Office of the State Council Safety Committee has decided to supervise and investigate four recent accidents, requiring relevant localities to conduct higher-level investigations following the “Four No Let-ups” principle, and to pursue accountability strictly according to laws and regulations. An urgent notice regarding recent typical major accidents has been issued, calling for lessons learned from these incidents, firm prevention and containment of serious and major accidents, and effective prevention of rebound in major and significant accidents, ensuring the continued stability of the national safety situation.
Since the beginning of this year, the overall safety production situation across the country has remained stable. However, recent incidents have involved multiple regions experiencing typical serious fatal accidents. On March 13, an accident occurred at an auto parts company in Zhaoqing, Guangdong, resulting in 3 deaths and 4 injuries; on March 14, a fire broke out in a self-built house in Meizhou, Guangdong, causing 3 deaths and 2 injuries; on the same day, near Yianli Mountain in Jiujiang, Jiangxi, people fell while rock climbing, resulting in 3 deaths; on March 15, a mechanical injury accident at an auto parts company in Yantai, Shandong, caused 3 deaths.
The notice pointed out that these recent typical accidents serve as a stark warning. Currently, various production and business units are accelerating resumption of work and production, with a strong desire to achieve a “good start,” leading to a significant increase in safety risks. As temperatures gradually warm up, public travel and outings are concentrated, and various risks and hidden dangers are intertwined and superimposed. Safety production must not be relaxed for a moment.
The notice demands that all regions, departments, and units resolutely shoulder the political responsibility of preventing and resolving major safety risks. They should strengthen analysis and assessment of safety risks in their respective areas, units, and industries, earnestly advance the three-year campaign to address root causes of safety issues, and intensify efforts to crack down on illegal activities and violations. All efforts should be made to prevent and resolve major safety risks, and to continuously strengthen the safety foundation for economic and social development through concrete actions.
The notice emphasizes the need to enhance safety risk prevention for public travel, tourism, and outdoor activities. It calls for further strengthening safety supervision and responsibility implementation in transportation, water, and mountain scenic areas, improving safety management of facilities such as cable cars, gondolas, large amusement rides, glass walkways, floating bridges, suspension bridges, and sightseeing boats and ships. Safety reminders and publicity should be intensified, and visitors entering unsafe areas like “wild scenic spots” without proper safety measures should be promptly discouraged. Additionally, safety management of organized outdoor activities such as rock climbing and hiking should be strengthened to prevent lapses and loss of control.
