From January to February 2023, total electricity consumption across society reached 1,654.6 billion kilowatt-hours, representing a year-over-year increase of 6.1%. Electricity consumption increased across all three industries, with particularly notable growth in high-tech and equipment manufacturing as well as charging and battery-swapping service sectors, reaching growth rates of 10.6% and 55.1% respectively.

People’s Finance News, March 17 — On March 17, the National Energy Administration released data on electricity consumption across society for January and February. During this period, total electricity consumption was 1,654.6 billion kWh, a year-on-year increase of 6.1%.

Breaking down by industry, the primary industry used 22.3 billion kWh, up 7.4% year-on-year. The secondary industry used 1,027.9 billion kWh, an increase of 6.3%, with industrial electricity consumption rising 6.4% and high-tech and equipment manufacturing industries increasing 10.6%. The tertiary industry used 323.1 billion kWh, up 8.3% year-on-year, with charging and swapping services and internet data services growing by 55.1% and 46.2%, respectively. Urban and rural residents’ electricity consumption was 281.3 billion kWh, a 2.7% increase.
