Meta releases its first major update for Ray-Ban Display smart glasses, adding mini-games and widget components.
Tech Home, March 15 — Meta has introduced its first major update for the Ray-Ban Stories smart glasses, the Meta Ray-Ban Display, featuring two mini-games, Instagram Reels feed, Widgets, calendar app, and more. However, only screenshots of the mini-games have been officially released.
The two new mini-games added to the glasses are “GOAT” and “2048.” “GOAT” is similar to the classic mobile game “Doodle Jump,” where the goal is to climb upward on constantly appearing platforms and reach the highest possible point. “2048” is a port of the open-source puzzle game of the same name. Players slide numbered tiles to merge matching numbers, aiming to eventually create the number 2048.
In terms of social features, previously, when users opened Instagram on the glasses, the interface only displayed the last ten private messages and recent Reels videos. With this update, the app defaults to a Reels feed similar to the middle tab of the mobile Instagram app. Users can browse videos by swiping down along the side of the thumb and index finger, like, double-tap with thumb and index finger to like, and tap to open a menu to share videos with friends. To view private messages, users can use a back gesture to return to the original message list.
For the system interface, Meta has added a Widgets system to the glasses, with components fixed above the default home screen. Currently, four widgets are available: reminders, calendar events, weather, and stock information.
Additionally, Meta has partnered with Spotify to launch a new feature called “Soundtrack Your World.” This feature uses Meta AI to automatically recommend matching music based on the scene the user is viewing. For example, if the user says, “Hey Meta, play a song to match this view,” the system will select an appropriate song based on the current scene, such as a sunset, album cover, or concert poster, and play music in the corresponding style.
