Croatian humanoid robot “Tonga” made its debut on the 25th at the Humanoid Robot Conference held at the Ruđer Bošković Institute in Zagreb. During the showcase, “Tonga” attracted many viewers with its smooth dance moves and kung fu actions. The robot is built on China’s Yushu Technology G1 platform, with voice communication and enhanced motor control systems developed jointly by Croatian Vandele Robotics and its partners. During the presentation, “Tonga” performed dance and kung fu routines, was able to converse with people in Croatian, and also greeted Chinese reporters in Chinese. Tadey Slapnik, director and co-founder of Vandele Robotics, told Xinhua that a pilot project is currently underway in Opatija, a tourist destination in Croatia. It is expected that professional robot receptionists will be put into use within the next three to four months, responsible for greeting guests, managing reservations, and providing information services.
