National Bureau of Statistics releases energy production situation for January-February 2026: crude oil production turns from decline to growth, natural gas production maintains steady growth, and electricity production acceleration increases.
Energy Production Situation in January–February 2026
In January–February, industrial raw coal production above designated size remained stable, crude oil production shifted from decline to growth, natural gas production steadily increased, and electricity generation accelerated.
Raw coal production narrowed its decline. In January–February, industrial raw coal output was 760 million tons, down 0.3% year-on-year, narrowing the decline by 0.7 percentage points compared to December 2025; the average daily output was 12.93 million tons.
Crude oil production shifted from decline to growth. In January–February, industrial crude oil output was 35.73 million tons, up 1.9% year-on-year, compared to a 0.6% decline in December 2025; the average daily output was 0.606 million tons.
Crude oil processing maintained growth. In January–February, industrial crude oil processing volume was 122.63 million tons, up 2.9% year-on-year; the average daily processing was 2.079 million tons.
Natural gas production steadily increased. In January–February, industrial natural gas output was 44.6 billion cubic meters, up 2.9% year-on-year; the average daily output was 0.76 billion cubic meters.
Electricity generation in industries above designated size accelerated. In January–February, industrial electricity generation was 1,571.8 billion kWh, up 4.1% year-on-year, with the growth rate accelerating by 4.0 percentage points compared to December 2025; the average daily generation was 26.64 billion kWh.
By product type, in January–February, industrial thermal power shifted from decline to growth, hydropower growth accelerated, while nuclear, wind, and solar power growth slowed. Specifically, industrial thermal power increased by 3.3% year-on-year, compared to a 3.2% decline in December 2025; industrial hydropower grew by 6.8%, with an acceleration of 2.7 percentage points; nuclear power grew by 0.8%, with a slowdown of 2.3 percentage points; wind power increased by 5.3%, with a slowdown of 3.6 percentage points; solar power increased by 9.9%, with a slowdown of 8.3 percentage points.
