Fuel prices soar, leading several Korean airlines to enter emergency management mode

Local time on March 31, Korean Air Lines issued an announcement saying that, due to the continued tense situation in the Middle East, oil prices have surged, the won-to-U.S. dollar exchange rate has fallen sharply, and starting in April Korean Air will launch an emergency management mechanism and implement response measures in phases according to the level of oil prices to ensure the company’s overall cost-effectiveness. Korean Air is the third airline in South Korea, after T’way Air and Asiana Airlines, to launch an emergency management mechanism. On March 16, South Korea’s T’way Air announced the launch of an emergency management mechanism; on the 25th, South Korea’s second-largest airline Asiana Airlines announced the launch of an emergency management mechanism; meanwhile, low-cost airlines such as Busan Air and Jin Air will reduce the number of flights starting in April to reduce losses.
