You know, the story of Pepe the Frog is much more interesting than it seems at first glance. When you see that sad face online, few people remember where it originally came from.

It all started in 2005 with the comic Boy's Club by artist Matt Furie. There was a simple scene — a character taking a dump with pants up to his ankles and saying "Feels good, man." Simple, but it became the starting point for an entire cultural phenomenon.

The real rise happened when the frog appeared on 4chan in 2008. The community began creating wonders — modifying facial expressions, adding new phrases. Sad Pepe, Smug Pepe, Feels Bad Man, and dozens of other variations appeared. Each version reflected a specific emotional state — sadness, loneliness, rage, even happiness.

But here’s the interesting part — by 2015-2016, Pepe the Frog started being associated with political movements in the US, including support for Trump. This sparked serious controversy. The Anti-Defamation League even listed some versions as hate symbols, although Furie himself was always against such usage.

In the crypto world, there was a revival. On 4chan, 'Rare Pepe' — unique, collectible versions of the meme — appeared. Later, this frog inspired entire NFT projects and tokens based on Counterparty. The crypto community quickly realized that Pepe is perfect for experimenting with blockchain and digital assets.

Now many are thinking about creating their own interpretation of this meme — maybe a philosophical version about blockchain or a rare collectible variation for their community. The story shows that Pepe the Frog is not just an image, but a symbol that is constantly being reinterpreted and finding new life in different contexts.
