๐Ÿ”ฅBitcoin Depot was robbed of about 54 BTC, and an on-chain investigation suggests losses may be higher than officially disclosed

On April 9, on-chain investigator ZachXBT revealed that U.S. Bitcoin ATM operator Bitcoin Depot (BTM) stated in an 8-K filing submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that the company discovered a security incident on March 23, with about 50.9 BTC (about $3.6 million) stolen. The investigation indicated that the incident actually occurred as early as March 20, meaning the funds were transferred out about three days before the company became aware. Through on-chain tracking, a total of 19 highly credible related addresses were identified, involving about 54.45 BTC (about $3.7 million), higher than the amount disclosed by the companyโ€”an estimated difference of about 3.55 BTCโ€”or possibly involves employee personal accountsโ€ฆ
