Analysts: Israel's "Regional Alliance" Strategy is Reckless and Unrealistic
Former senior adviser to Israel’s Prime Minister’s Office, Daniel Levi, recently said in an interview with CCTV’s “High-End Interview” that he believes Israel made a mistake: some people think the Palestinian issue is secondary, and that the regional core is Iran, but that is not the case. Over the past two years, Israel has carried out a zero-sum elimination plan targeting Palestinians in Gaza, and its conduct is evident for all to see. Levi said Israel is sending signals to countries in the region, telling them to accept Israel’s control over Palestinians, to not establish a State of Palestine, not to recognize Palestinians’ rights, and even not to acknowledge the very existence of the nation of “Palestinians.” Levi believes that once the situation between Israel and Palestine gets out of control, the spillover effects will reach Gulf countries and Turkey. Israel believes this would force those countries—under the support of the United States—to further deepen their alliance ties with Israel. At that time, Israel might perhaps form a region-wide alliance led by itself and do whatever it wants on the Palestinian issue. However, this strategic positioning is extremely reckless, cannot be achieved in any way, and is completely detached from reality. (CCTV News)
