⚙️ Blocks Are Dead. Long Live Blobs.
Ethereum researchers are exploring the "Block-in-Blobs" proposal (EIP-8142), which envisions moving payload data execution into BLOB objects (packaging) to reduce bandwidth requirements and enable greater validator scalability.
The idea is to eliminate the need for validators to download and re-execute full data packages while still maintaining availability guarantees — in an era of increasing block sizes and gas limits, information will be verified selectively. Zero-knowledge proofs will help confirm the correctness of transaction processing, removing the need for re-execution.
Separately, the ERC-8211 standard proposal is being studied, which aims for multi-stage transaction execution. Instead of fixed parameters set at signing, transactions will fetch data from the blockchain in real-time, verify conditions, and perform multiple steps sequentially. The goal is to reduce failed transactions and enable more complex operations, including for AI agents.
