The world's first shipping vessel capable of carrying over ten thousand cars is trial sailing today

On March 31, China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s Guangzhou Shipyard International launched sea trials for the first LNG dual-fuel car carrier (PCTC) built for South Korea’s HMM company, the 10,800-car capacity vessel. This is currently the world’s first under-construction 10,000-car-class dual-fuel car carrier. It is understood that the ship has a total length of 230 meters, a beam of 40 meters, a draft of 10.5 meters, and a speed of about 19 knots, achieving a perfect balance between efficient transportation and stable navigation. The 14-layer garage deck design allows flexible loading of electric vehicles, hydrogen-powered vehicles, and heavy trucks, with a maximum capacity of 10,800 vehicles per ship. Assuming a standard vehicle length of 5 meters, the loaded vehicles would be connected end-to-end for over 50 kilometers. The ship uses a dual-fuel propulsion system powered by fuel oil and LNG, equipped with shaft-driven generators that can generate electricity while sailing, thereby achieving energy saving and emission reduction. This vessel has excellent environmental performance, meeting the International Maritime Organization Tier III emission standards. (CCTV News)
