# ViaBTC explained the reasons for restricting access to accounts

ViaBTC users reported account blocks and withdrawal restrictions. Representatives of the mining pool explained the reasons for these measures in a comment to ForkLog.

According to them, in recent weeks, attackers convinced miners to connect to the pool through fake addresses, intercepting their hashrate and income. The ViaBTC team then sent notifications to users and reminded them to use only the platform’s official addresses.

To protect users, technical specialists temporarily restricted access to some accounts that were potentially at risk.

“Blocks and restrictions will be gradually lifted after confirming that the threat has been completely eliminated. These measures are purely protective and are not related to any other factors,” ViaBTC emphasized.

Representatives of the mining pool separately noted that the documents requested from some users are used exclusively for verification and to eliminate the risk of hashrate interception, not for standard verification procedures.

Some restrictions have already been lifted. The support team is working in enhanced mode to restore access.

ViaBTC’s decision followed a wave of complaints from users, mainly from Russia, about unexpected account blocks and requests to provide a package of documents.
