Caixin: Domestic issuance and use of U cards carry an additional layer of legal risks
On December 25th, Caixin published an article titled “The Secret and Deadly Risks of the U Card Trend in Crazy Flowing on Xiaohongshu,” which pointed out that users can use bank cards with the Visa logo for payments such as ChatGPT Plus subscription charges, with the charges processed through USDT in cryptocurrency wallets. These overseas bank cards, commonly known as “U Cards,” are a type of overseas bank card that makes payments based on USD stablecoins. The Caixin article also noted that issuing and using U Cards domestically carries an additional layer of legal risk. Whether this is a fleeting transitional product or a code hidden in the future payment landscape remains unknown.
