The founder of Ethereum recently pointed out that the current protocol layer has accumulated too much complexity and is facing a chaotic state that is difficult to clean up. He suggested launching a systematic protocol整理工作, gradually streamlining code logic through a "garbage collection" mechanism. The core idea is to refine the functional scope of the protocol itself and transfer more complex operations to the smart contract layer for processing. This approach can both reduce the cognitive load on the base layer and facilitate subsequent protocol maintenance and upgrade iterations. This move is seen as an important exploration for the long-term architecture optimization of Ethereum, aiming to clear obstacles for the sustainable development of the ecosystem. Industry experts believe that if this方案顺利推进, it will help the healthy evolution of the ETH ecosystem.

It's easy to say, but the key is execution. Throughout history, how many proposals for "systematic organization" have ultimately fallen into empty talk? Whether Ethereum can truly advance this time depends on whether governance efficiency can keep up — it's not about whether the technology can be done, but whether community consensus can be reached.

Honestly, Vitalik's move is a bit harsh, directly admitting that the protocol is piling up. That must have been really frustrating to say. Simplifying code logic? Sounds good, but I'm just worried that execution might be another story. Using the term garbage collection, the protocol has indeed become a garbage dump. Moving to the contract layer and calling it done? Feels like just shifting the problem somewhere else. Has the real issue been solved? If the base layer becomes streamlined, will the underlying users have to pay more gas fees? If this really pushes forward, will the ETH mainnet become laggy like a major version update? I'm a bit worried.

To be honest, the protocol layer is too cluttered, and it should have been cleaned up long ago. But can this "garbage collection" really work? It feels like it will take another half day of tinkering...

To be honest, I quite agree with V神's recent idea. Ethereum is indeed bloated now. Would garbage collection make it run faster? Give it a try. The complexity is overwhelming and really frustrating, but it's good if it can be cleaned up. It sounds simple, but I don't know how long the actual operation will take... If this major overhaul succeeds, the ecosystem will definitely be much easier.

In simple terms, Ethereum has become bloated and needs surgery; otherwise, it will only get more complicated as it piles up. --- Garbage collection? It sounds like tidying up old junk at home, but it's definitely something that needs to be done. --- If this can really slim down the network successfully, can gas fees be reduced? That would be the key. --- Another major overhaul, I wonder how long we'll have to wait this time. --- The core logic is actually about reducing complexity, I like this idea, but executing it is extremely difficult. --- Simplifying code sounds easy, but in reality, there are many pitfalls. --- So ETH is finally going to do a big cleanup; I look forward to seeing if it can truly ease the network load. --- It sounds reliable, but such system-level optimizations carry significant risks. Hopefully, no unexpected issues will arise. --- Just moving everything to the contract layer? It doesn't seem that simple.

Cleaning up trash again, when did Satoshi start doing housekeeping haha

Well, to put it simply, Ethereum's building blocks have become too complicated. Now they want to dismantle and rebuild... Is this going to work? I'm skeptical.

ngl, eth protocol cleanup sounds nice but remember 2022... every "optimization" they promised tanked our health factors. not saying vitalik's wrong, just... been there, lost that. watch those collateral ratios while they're tinkering with layer 1.
