U.S. Senator Warren calls for a pause in advancing Wash's nomination until the Department of Justice concludes its investigation into Powell.
Deep Tide TechFlow News, January 30 — According to Jinshi Data, Massachusetts Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren expressed multiple concerns on Friday about Trump’s decision to nominate Jerome Powell. As the lead Democrat on the Senate Banking Committee (also the first stop in Powell’s confirmation process), Warren questioned whether Powell could lead the Federal Reserve without White House influence. “Trump has stated that anyone who disagrees with him cannot become Fed Chair,” Warren said in a statement. “Former Fed Governor Kevin Warsh — who, after the 2008 financial crisis, was more concerned with helping Wall Street than the millions of Americans who lost their jobs — has clearly passed the loyalty test.” Warren called on Republicans to delay moving forward with Powell’s nomination until the Department of Justice concludes its investigation into current Chair Jerome Powell. “Any Republican claiming to care about the independence of the Federal Reserve should, before Trump stops his political witch hunt against the current Fed Chair and Board Member Lisa Cook, refuse to advance this nomination,” she stated.
