Odaily Planet Daily reports that Massachusetts Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren expressed multiple concerns on Friday regarding Trump’s decision to nominate Waller. As the chief Democrat on the Senate Banking Committee (also the first stop in Waller’s confirmation process), Warren questioned whether Waller could lead the Federal Reserve without influence from the White House. “Trump has stated that anyone who disagrees with him cannot become Fed Chair,” Warren said in a statement. “Former Fed Governor Kevin Waller—who, after the 2008 financial crisis, was more concerned with helping Wall Street than millions of unemployed Americans—has clearly passed the loyalty test.” Warren called on Republicans to delay advancing Waller’s nomination until the Department of Justice concludes its investigation into current Chair Powell. “Any Republican claiming to care about Fed independence should refuse to advance this nomination until Trump ceases his ‘political witch hunt’ against current Fed Chair Powell and Board Member Lisa Cook,” she said.
