The global rich list transforms: August 2025 redefines the face of global billionaires
August 2025 Global Rich List Update reveals a fascinating landscape of worldwide fortunes, where tech giants are increasingly dominating. Forbes has published its monthly report of the world’s wealthiest billionaires, and the picture that emerges is particularly telling: the rapid growth of tech giants has completely reshaped the global rankings of the richest magnates.
Jensen Huang: the spectacular leap shaking up the rankings
The undisputed star of this period is Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, who has achieved a lightning-fast rise in the global rich list. In July, he gained an extraordinary $17 billion (equivalent to 93.5 billion reais), benefiting from the meteoric appreciation of the semiconductor giant’s shares, which increased by about 14% during the month.
Huang climbed four positions, moving from tenth to sixth place in just a few weeks. Nvidia’s exceptional performance was driven by the AI boom and the growing global demand for advanced chips. The company also reached a historic milestone: it became the first semiconductor manufacturer to surpass a valuation of $4 trillion (over 22 trillion reais), confirming its dominant role in the tech sector.
The fortunes of the top 10 billionaires: the new world order
The list of the wealthiest magnates presents an interesting picture. All top 10 members are male and boast fortunes exceeding $138 billion. Elon Musk leads with $401 billion, followed by Larry Ellison with $299.6 billion, Mark Zuckerberg with $266.7 billion, and Jeff Bezos with $246.4 billion.
The global rankings also include:
Page and Brin, co-founders of Google, reflect the strength of the online search giant in the tech world. Steve Ballmer, former CEO of Microsoft, consolidates his position thanks to the company’s stock value, which he led for years.
The tech boom reshapes the rich list
The August rise in the global rich list is mainly attributable to the extraordinary success of tech companies in financial markets. Nvidia, Meta, and Google led the upward movement, lifting the fortunes of those holding significant shares.
This trend underscores how the technology and artificial intelligence sectors remain the primary drivers of wealth creation for global magnates. The semiconductor industry, in particular, has benefited from unprecedented demand driven by the worldwide implementation of increasingly sophisticated AI systems.
Forbes’ list, which is updated in real-time based on market fluctuations, has been tracking the movements of the world’s largest fortunes since 1987. In its April 2025 annual edition, the magazine identified 3,028 billionaires worldwide, numbers that demonstrate how global wealth remains concentrated in the hands of a few fortunate individuals, with the global rich list constantly evolving at the pace of financial markets.
