Iranian Foreign Minister: Iran-U.S. negotiations will be held in Oman on the 6th. The talks are part of ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions and seek a diplomatic solution. Both sides are expected to discuss issues related to nuclear agreements, regional security, and mutual interests. The international community is closely monitoring these developments, hoping for a positive outcome that can lead to stability in the region.
On February 4th, local time, Iranian Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian clarified Iran’s official position regarding talks with the United States in Oman, stating that negotiations are scheduled to take place around 10 a.m. on the 6th in Muscat, the capital of Oman. He also expressed gratitude for all the necessary arrangements made by Oman for these negotiations.
Earlier that day, an Iranian official source stated that the Iran-U.S. talks originally scheduled for the 6th in Oman had been canceled. The source indicated that the reason for canceling the talks was due to the U.S. side imposing new conditions on the negotiations and disagreements between the two sides on the issues, rather than the location of the talks.
On February 4th, local time, two U.S. officials revealed that the U.S. government had officially informed Iran on the 4th that it refused Iran’s request to change the original scheduled date and format of the talks on the 6th. The two sides had previously agreed to hold the talks in Istanbul with the participation of multiple international observers, but Iran requested on the 3rd to move the negotiations to Oman and conduct them bilaterally. After assessment, the U.S. side believed that this move could weaken multilateral coordination efforts and insisted on the original arrangement.
