Reports indicate that the Apple Studio Display 2 monitor features 5K 90Hz specifications, reserving bandwidth for external devices.
IT House February 5 News, according to foreign media MacRumors, an anonymous source reported that in a suspected leaked internal testing version of iOS26, code clues related to a new monitor were found, leading to the conclusion that the next-generation Studio Display is likely to support only 5K 90Hz at most, rather than 120Hz.
Existing Apple products typically have screen refresh rates of either 60Hz or 120Hz, so 90Hz is indeed a relatively uncommon specification for Apple. However, the source believes that from a bandwidth perspective, this choice is reasonable. Although Thunderbolt 5 theoretically can support 5K resolution + 120Hz output without compression, Apple may want to reserve more bandwidth for connecting other devices and accessories, thus making some trade-offs on refresh rate. In comparison, the current Studio Display has a maximum refresh rate of only 60Hz.
Referring to previous reports by IT House, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman revealed in the latest newsletter that Apple is expected to release the Studio Display 2 monitor within the first half of the year. Meanwhile, a monitor with model number A3350 has appeared in the domestic regulatory database, but the database entry does not disclose further details about the device, only indicating that it will continue to use an LCD panel. It is expected that this will be the long-rumored Studio Display 2, which may feature Mini-LED backlighting, ProMotion high refresh rate, HDR, A19 chip, and other features.
