Iranian Foreign Minister heads to Oman to seek a fair "understanding" on nuclear issues
Xinhua Finance Tehran, February 6 – (Reporter Chen Xia Shadati) Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Bagheri announced on the evening of the 5th that Iranian Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian has led a diplomatic delegation to Muscat, the capital of Oman, to conduct negotiations with the United States on nuclear issues.
Bagheri issued a statement on social media saying that this diplomatic engagement between Iran and the U.S. aims to “reach a fair, mutually recognized, and decent understanding on the nuclear issue.”
Bagheri stated that Iran has always kept in mind the painful experiences of the past, including violations of the Iran nuclear deal, Iran’s military invasion in June last year, and recent external interference in Iran’s situation. “We have always consciously taken on the responsibility of safeguarding the rights of the Iranian people; at the same time, we also have the responsibility not to give up any opportunity to protect national interests and maintain regional peace and stability through diplomatic means.”
Bagheri expressed gratitude to all regional countries promoting the current diplomatic process and hopes that the U.S. will also participate in this diplomatic effort with a responsible, pragmatic, and serious attitude.
The U.S. government has recently continued to issue military threats against Iran and has increased military forces around Iran, demanding that Iran quickly negotiate with the U.S. and reach an agreement. On the evening of the 4th, Alaghazi confirmed that Iran is scheduled to hold nuclear negotiations with the U.S. in Muscat on the 6th.
