  3. China Telecom and China Unicom Launch Beidou Short Message Trial Commercial Use
    China Telecom announced that the company, in partnership with China StarNet, has officially received approval from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology for the Beidou-3 short message public application commercial trial. Once officially launched, users can experience the service at China Telecom stores and via the China Telecom app, “no SIM card or number change needed,” enjoying “wider coverage, larger capacity, and lower thresholds” for Beidou short messages.
    China Unicom stated that it recently received approval from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology to conduct the Beidou-3 short message public application commercial trial. This marks a key progress in promoting the integration of satellite communication and ground mobile communication, elevating service capabilities to a new level.
    Beidou short messages offer higher-precision positioning information and can provide reliable communication support in scenarios such as emergency rescue, outdoor adventures, mountaineering, offshore fishing, and scientific exploration. In remote areas without ground network signals like oceans, deep mountains, and deserts, users with Beidou message-supported terminals can send short messages via Beidou satellites, significantly enhancing coverage and emergency response capabilities.

  4. US Power Outage Sparks Global Gas Turbine Shortage
    The US data center construction boom has triggered an electricity shortage. Global energy monitoring agencies tracking oil and gas plants report that as of January 2026, the US has over 29 GW of natural gas power capacity under construction, more than doubling within a year. However, many of these projects may not start construction for years due to a lack of available gas turbines from manufacturers. GE Vernova’s CEO noted that in 2025, the company’s gas turbine contract volume increased by about 80%, but most high-margin orders signed in the past two years will not be delivered until after 2027.
