#EthereumL2Outlook
Ethereum is currently experiencing the following:
The main chain (Ethereum itself) has become incredibly fast and cheap.
→ Previously, people said "everything should be moved to L2s." Now that's no longer necessary.
L2s (layer-2s like Arbitrum, Optimism, Base) are not receiving as much attention as before.
→ The number of users has halved.
→ People are returning to the main Ethereum.
Vitalik's new message is very clear:
"It's not enough to just say 'I'm a cheap version of Ethereum.'
You either have to do something very special or you'll be forgotten over time."
What could be special? Truly private transactions.
Very fast buying and selling (one-tenth of a second).
Unique things like games, artificial intelligence, and social media.
Special use cases like identity verification and voting.
In short, the situation is this:
The main Ethereum road has become much wider and cheaper. L2s must now go beyond simply being "cheaper Ethereum" and
offer "something that is not available anywhere else." Those who can't will gradually lose their importance.
A few L2s that can will remain very powerful.
In the simplest terms:
Ethereum is back.
L2s will either do something very different and useful,
or they will gradually fade into the background.
