Tragedy Born from Mistaken Identity: 74-Year-Old Man Kidnapped and Tortured After Being Mistaken for Son of French Cryptocurrency Millionaire
On January 25th, a 74-year-old man from Isère, France, became the victim of a shocking kidnapping incident. This case was not merely a crime but a tragedy that drastically changed lives due to a simple misidentification. According to reports from Foresight News, the suspects believed the victim’s son was a major figure in the cryptocurrency industry and organized an abduction to demand ransom.
Misidentification with a Cryptocurrency Tycoon Led to Misfortune
The kidnapping group mistakenly obtained information about the victim and his son. They believed the son was a wealthy millionaire who had amassed enormous assets through cryptocurrency, and they planned to demand a large ransom of 3 million euros. The victim was taken to a bar in the Drôme region and subjected to 16 hours of brutal illegal detention. During the violent abuse, he sustained facial cuts and had his fingers cut off, suffering tragic physical injuries.
Threatening Videos Sent via Encrypted Communication
To exert pressure, the suspects sent videos depicting acts of violence against the victim through encrypted communication channels. This cold-blooded intimidation tactic was used to force the payment of the ransom. Evidence suggests that, despite relying on false information, the criminal group carried out the crime in a systematic and planned manner.
Arrests of Three Suspects and Uncovering the Behind-the-Scenes Network
The Rhône Valley police arrested three suspects in their twenties involved in this organized crime. According to investigations, they have been formally charged with organized kidnapping, torture, and brutal violence, and are currently in custody. Notably, during the investigation, it emerged that the suspects may have been acting under external instructions. This indicates that the kidnapping was not merely an impulsive act but possibly part of a larger criminal network with handlers or coordinators behind the scenes.
The police continue to conduct detailed investigations, aiming to uncover the full extent of this misidentification-based kidnapping incident.
