The Associated Press and the University of Chicago’s NORC jointly conducted a recent poll showing that most Americans disapprove of Trump’s recent attempt to take control of Greenland, with even many Republicans feeling repelled.

The poll found that about 70% of American adults disapprove of Trump’s handling of the Greenland issue. This percentage is higher than the proportion of Americans who disapprove of Trump’s overall foreign policy, indicating that even within the United States, Trump’s approach to Greenland is unpopular. Only about 24% of American adults approve of Trump’s actions regarding Greenland.

Over 70% of Americans disapprove of Trump’s approach to Greenland Even among Republicans, about half do not support Trump’s attempt to seize control of the region.

The poll was conducted from February 5 to 8, at a time when Trump had decided to cancel tariffs aimed at pressuring European countries to support U.S. control of Greenland, though his efforts to intervene in the island had continued for weeks prior.

Other recent polls, including a January survey by Pew Research Center, reached similar conclusions—that the American public generally opposes the idea of the U.S. taking over Greenland.

The survey also shows that young Republicans are especially dissatisfied with Trump’s handling of the Greenland issue.

Among Republican voters under 45, about 60% disapprove of his leadership on Greenland, compared to about 40% among older Republicans.

Younger Republicans are more opposed.
