Abstract generation in progress

As the penetration rate of new energy vehicles continues to rise, the deployment of charging stations in both residential and commercial settings has surged. However, the pressure on electrical loads is becoming a limiting factor for safe electricity use: in homes or commercial venues with limited power capacity, running multiple high-power appliances simultaneously or during peak charging times can easily lead to circuit overloads.

How to maximize charging efficiency while ensuring electrical safety is a core challenge facing the industry.

Building on ongoing efforts to develop a smart charging ecosystem, Tuya has launched a new upgraded smart charging station solution. Based on MCU SDK protocol integration, smart meters and smart charging stations communicate in real-time over wireless local area networks, achieving dynamic load balancing and real-time adjustment of charging station output power without relying on cloud intervention, thereby enhancing adaptive management capabilities.

This solution not only addresses safety concerns related to electricity use but also integrates comprehensive features such as smart charging schedules, maximum power/current settings, flexible electricity pricing adaptation, visual data analysis, and multi-user management. It constructs a refined charging management system that truly achieves load balancing, energy cost optimization, and an overall upgrade of user charging experience.

01 Smarter Power Management Center: Dynamic Load Balancing

Traditional charging stations typically adopt static power strategies, unable to respond dynamically to external load changes. Tuya’s wireless dynamic load balancing (W-DLB) feature, in a local area network environment, collects real-time total circuit power data via smart meters and seamlessly transmits it to the charging station. The station then adjusts its output power dynamically based on preset circuit power limits and current total load, forming a local closed-loop control of “monitoring-decision-execution.”

▍ Conditions for implementing dynamic load balancing:

▍ Steps for implementing dynamic load balancing:

  • Local pairing: Pair the charging station and smart meter within the same local network, and obtain connection status via the charging station panel;
  • Set upper limit: Configure power limit on the panel;
  • One-click activation: Enable load balancing switch in the app panel;
  • Real-time monitoring: Smart meter transmits real-time circuit power data to the charging station;
  • Dynamic adjustment: The charging station adjusts its output power in real-time based on the current power data and the set limit.

02 Smarter Charging Strategy: Intelligent Charging Schedule

Traditional charging modes lack flexibility in adjusting electricity prices during different time periods, often running at full power during high-cost periods, which increases electricity expenses. Tuya’s intelligent charging schedule feature allows users to take full control of charging, enabling “low-cost efficient charging and automatic pause or reduced speed during high-cost periods” for a user-friendly experience.

Users can set up to three charging schedules, each supporting single or weekly recurring timers, divided into up to five time segments. Within each segment, users can independently set charging power or current limits, flexibly matching peak-valley and time-of-use electricity pricing policies, satisfying range needs while significantly reducing electricity costs.

The entire process operates automatically without manual intervention, with the system strictly following preset schedules to start, stop, and adjust charging, making home charging more economical and hassle-free.

03 More comprehensive feature matrix: Transparent and refined management

While ensuring safety and efficiency, Tuya’s charging station solution extends its capabilities across a complete feature matrix from planning and execution to analysis, fully meeting user demands for “cost-effectiveness, transparency, and controllability.”

  1. SOC management and real-time data: For vehicles supporting ISO15118 protocol, the system can read and display battery state of charge (SOC) in real-time, with four charging upper limits at 70%, 80%, 90%, and 100%, effectively protecting battery health. It also displays real-time charging current, voltage, power, as well as charging duration and amount charged, providing clear insight into the charging process.

  2. Max power/current setting: Offers global maximum charging power (0-22kW) or maximum charging current (6-80A) settings (only one can be selected). This setting works in conjunction with segmented controls in the smart charging schedule, prioritizing scheduled values during designated periods for more precise control.

  3. Charging records and visualization analysis: Records detailed data for each charging session, including energy consumption, start and end times, reasons for completion, and costs, with one-click export options. Automatically generates multi-dimensional visual bar charts for hours, days, months, and years, helping household users understand their electricity habits clearly, and providing fleet managers or semi-public users with efficient energy consumption analysis and cost accounting tools.

  4. Electricity pricing and IC card management: Supports fixed, time-of-use, and dynamic electricity pricing modes, with configurable peak and off-peak periods based on regional standards. Also supports binding up to five IC cards for hierarchical permission management among household members.

04 Focused on residential scenarios, meeting diverse needs

This solution fully supports AC home charging stations with mainstream power options of 3.5kW, 7kW, 11kW, and 22kW, compatible with voltages of 220V, 230V, and 380V. Whether fixed or portable, it can be flexibly integrated into various home environments and is also suitable for fleet or semi-public scenarios. Operation modes include plug-and-play and non-plug-and-play, supporting card-based charging, scheduled charging, and other modes, offering flexible operation to meet different user habits.

As home electrification accelerates, charging stations are evolving from simple charging devices to key entry points for home energy management. Tuya’s smart charging station solutions redefine safety and energy efficiency boundaries through standardized, modular integration, helping users quickly achieve product intelligence and enabling more households to enjoy professional-grade electricity management experiences.
