Involved in collision incident, U.S. destroyer captain dismissed
On February 22 local time, the U.S. Fourth Fleet issued a statement saying that the captain of the U.S. Navy destroyer involved in the collision in the Caribbean Sea on the 11th of this month has been relieved of duty. The statement said, “Commander James Coffey of the USS Trenton has been relieved of his command by the commander of the U.S. Fourth Fleet on the 22nd due to a loss of confidence in his leadership.” The statement also mentioned that on February 11, the USS Trenton collided with a U.S. Navy supply ship during at-sea replenishment operations. The cause of the incident is still under investigation. Earlier reports indicated that the USS Trenton was able to sail safely after the accident. Currently, the destroyer is docked at Ponce, Puerto Rico. (CCTV News)
