If you have already given up communicating with someone, essentially, you have given up on that person. Most adult goodbyes are not loud arguments or hysterical outbursts; true resignation is silent and unnoticed. Some words are said once to show care, twice to show cherish, but repeating them over and over turns into torment. One day, when you no longer speak, no longer argue, no longer explain your grievances, no longer expect understanding, it’s not that you have become cold, but that you finally understand: when hearts are out of sync, no matter how hard you try, it’s all in vain. So you give up on illusions, give up on patience, give up on all unrealistic possibilities, and also give up the door to each other. A true farewell isn’t necessarily physical separation; it’s when two worlds no longer bother each other from then on.
