The Mysterious Case of Sylwester Suszek: Disappearance of a Crypto Pioneer
Sylwester Suszek, founder and former president of Poland’s largest cryptocurrency exchange BitBay, has been missing without a trace since March 10, 2022. The 34-year-old, known in the industry as the “King of Bitcoins,” has been unaccounted for ever since. His case remains one of the most mysterious disappearances in the crypto industry and continues to raise unanswered questions.
BitBay Founder Vanishes Without a Trace: The Beginning of a Nightmare
Sylwester Suszek was last seen leaving a fuel depot after a business meeting. Surveillance cameras at the location were not working that day—an detail that fueled speculation about the circumstances of his disappearance. Despite intensive police investigations, authorities found no concrete leads regarding the BitBay founder. The case quickly became a puzzle that shocked the Polish crypto community and raised concerns about the safety of industry veterans.
Extortion Messages and Mysterious Phone Calls: The Search for Answers
Nicole Suszek, Sylwester’s sister, suspects that her brother was kidnapped and possibly murdered. During her independent investigation, she made disturbing discoveries: four days after his disappearance, his phone connected to a network while moving along a highway—indicating the device was still active.
Even more troubling were the mysterious messages Nicole received. An audio recording resembling Sylwester’s voice urged her to acquire Bitcoin worth 12 million PLN at the time and transfer it to a specified email address. “He sounded like my brother, just somehow electronically distorted,” Nicole reported, describing the unsettling experience. An attached SMS was unequivocal: “This is no joke. In a week, there will be a photo of the body.”
Nicole refused the demand and later received further recordings with escalating threats, including mutilation warnings and pleas to return home for Easter. These messages strengthened her belief that Sylwester Suszek was in serious danger.
Four Years Later: The Unsolved Case and the Family’s Hope
More than four years have passed since Sylwester Suszek disappeared. Investigations remain open, with no body or clear clues about his fate. Nicole Suszek continues her independent search but faces threats herself. “Considering the facts, another scenario seems unlikely,” Nicole says about her conviction of the tragedy.
The case of Sylwester Suszek remains a cautionary example in the crypto industry, raising questions about the safety of prominent figures. While investigations continue, the family still hopes for breakthroughs and answers— a case that exposes the darker side of the industry.
