According to BlockBeats’ report, U.S. President Trump signed a decision on February 21st to implement temporary tariffs. Under this emergency measure, a 10% customs duty on imports into the U.S. will take effect at 00:01 on February 24th. This economic intervention aims to reshape the global trade balance.

What Is the New Customs Tariff Regulation?

Under the emergency measure, the same tariff rate will be applied to products coming into the U.S. from any country. An important detail is that this tariff will be in effect within 150 days, with certain exceptions. According to the White House, this economic tool is designed to improve the country’s trade balance.

Which Products Are Exempt?

Some critical product categories are exempt from the tariffs under the emergency measure. These include critical minerals, metals containing gold and silver, energy resources, and natural resources that cannot be produced in the U.S. Additionally, food products, medicines, essential electronic components, as well as automotive and aerospace industry products are also exempt. This comprehensive exemption list aims to protect sensitive sectors of the U.S. economy.

Removal of Additional Tariffs

The White House also announced the termination of additional tariffs previously imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. This move indicates Trump’s intention to remove other trade barriers within the emergency measure and transition to the new tariff system. If actions are taken, these tariffs are expected not to be implemented immediately.
