ZKsync Lite Sunsetting - Strategic Move to Migrate to Era

Abstract generation in progress

The ZKsync project has announced a significant transition. On May 5, 2025, the Lite network was fully shut down, halting block production and shifting the entire ecosystem toward next-generation solutions. This sunset process is designed to encourage developers and users to migrate to ZKsync Era and the new ZK Stack framework.

Final Phase of the Lite Network

The original 2020 rollup has been accessible via API for at least one year to allow users to gradually migrate. Currently, approximately $33.9 million is still locked on Lite, mostly consisting of stablecoins and ETH. The network’s final state has been frozen to ensure data preservation.

Important Steps for Users

All users are advised to withdraw their assets from Lite immediately. While funds can still be recovered in the future, the process may be more complex. The one-year access period provides users ample time to securely transfer their accounts.

Moving Toward Next-Generation Infrastructure

ZKsync is ending its first-generation Layer 2 technology to focus on Era and ZK Stack, which offer more advanced and scalable solutions. This sunset process is a natural phase in the project’s development, helping users migrate to a modern, more efficient network. Once the migration to the new framework is complete, the ZKsync ecosystem will be fully upgraded.
