"Stories About Shenzhen"

Some stories my dad told me
Every day, I pass through Shenzhen's main road - Shennan Avenue
There is a Shenzhen landmark on the main road - a portrait of Deng Xiaoping
The first version (1992) was based on a photo of Deng Xiaoping inspecting the Xianhu Botanical Garden in Shenzhen, with the slogan "Without adhering to socialism, without reform and opening up, without developing the economy, without improving people's lives, it can only be a dead end"
In the portrait, he is pointing towards Shennan Avenue
(I couldn't find this picture online)
And then, at that location on Shennan Avenue, there was a daily accident involving fatalities
(Interpretation: the direction Deng's portrait is looking at, "a dead end")
Later, it was changed to a half-body portrait, with no hand visible
The slogan was changed to: "Uphold the Party's basic line, unwavering for a hundred years"
After that, the accidents stopped happening...
