Semler Scientific Chairman: Bitcoin in the Post-Trump Era Worries Hedge Fund Executives
According to Gate News bot, as reported by Cointelegraph, Eric Semler, chairman of medical technology company Semler Scientific Inc., stated that many of his hedge fund peers are skeptical about the future of Bitcoin after U.S. President Donald Trump’s departure.
Semler told Coin Stories host Natalie Brunell last Thursday: “I think they believe Bitcoin is a fleeting concept, and that after the transition of the Trump administration, the price of Bitcoin is likely to drop significantly.”
Semler also founded the hedge fund TCS Capital Management in 2001. He made the above statement amid doubts within the cryptocurrency industry about how long political support for cryptocurrencies can last after U.S. President Donald Trump’s term ends. Although Trump recently approved a Bitcoin strategic reserve, some, such as JAN3 founder Samson Mow, are concerned that this support may crumble under future presidential leadership.
However, this is not a problem for Semler, as he has doubled down on Bitcoin. In May 2024, Semler Scientific became the second publicly traded company in the United States to adopt a Bitcoin fund management strategy.
On Thursday, Semler Scientific announced plans to increase its Bitcoin holdings by nearly 23 times over the next two and a half years, from 4,449 Bitcoins to 105,000 Bitcoins. Semler’s goal is to raise its Bitcoin holdings to 10,000 by the end of this year.
Semler views the skepticism of the traditional financial industry as a bullish signal.
“When you bet on things that most people don’t believe in, and your prediction is correct, you can earn more,” Semler said.
“I believe we have seized an excellent opportunity to let people know they are actually missing out on a great chance,” he added.
Semler stated that his career has been built by going against the tide. “The best investments I have made are those where I felt like I was fighting a lone battle in the wilderness,” he said.
He also added, “The return on this type of investment is the highest, I like negative sentiment; I am a contrarian investor.”
