Rice prices have risen to a nearly four-year high as South Korea adds to its reserve rice supply.
Jin10 data reported on September 13, the South Korean Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs stated on the 12th that it will release an additional 25,000 tons of reserve rice to stabilize the rice prices that have risen due to tight market supply. According to the Korean News Agency, on the 5th of this month, the acquisition price of a 40-kilogram bag of rice in South Korea exceeded 220,000 won (approximately 1,126 yuan), which is the first time in nearly four years that rice prices have surpassed this level. The South Korean government subsequently decided to launch the second round of reserve rice release. Currently, the average retail price of a 20-kilogram bag of rice in South Korea is 61,000 won (approximately 312 yuan), which has risen by 20% compared to the same period last year.
