Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin has submitted a pardon application to the king.

Jin10 Data reported on September 29 that the lawyer of former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin stated on September 29 local time that Thaksin, who is serving his sentence in prison, has submitted a petition for a royal pardon to the King. Thaksin is 76 years old and served as Prime Minister of Thailand from 2001 until he was ousted in a military coup in 2006, after which he lived in exile for a long time. On August 22, 2023, Thaksin returned to Thailand and was sentenced to 8 years in prison. Later, due to a royal pardon from the King of Thailand, his sentence was reduced to one year. In February 2024, Thaksin was granted parole on the grounds of being over seventy, suffering from serious illness, and having served 6 months of his sentence. On September 9, 2025, the Supreme Court of Thailand ruled on the case concerning Thaksin's alleged evasion of serving his sentence while hospitalized, stating that Thaksin must serve an additional year in prison.
