On August 15th, Jinshi Data reported that James Smith, an economist at the International Bank of the Netherlands, wrote in a report that overall, the growth of the UK economy in the first half of the year marked a "significant rebound" from last year's slight decline. Smith said that the increase in cash in the pockets of the British people has helped to drive the economy forward, but this is not the only explanation. Data released on Thursday showed that the UK's GDP grew by 0.6% in the second quarter, only slightly lower than the first quarter. Smith said the most obvious reason is that as inflation eases and the worst period of mortgage tightening passes, real wages have risen. However, he said that because household spending is actually lagging behind overall growth, other factors are also at play, such as the boost in professional services.
