On November 6, local time, former U.S. President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle posted a message congratulating Republican candidate Trump and his running mate Vance on their victory. Given the deep disagreements with Republican candidates on a range of issues, “this is clearly not the outcome we were hoping for,” Obama said, but it is important to recognize that “living in a democratic society means that our views do not always prevail and that we have to be willing to accept a peaceful transfer of power.” Mr. Obama said he and Michelle were proud of Harris and his running mate, Waltz, “two outstanding public servants,” who performed well in the campaign.
